The Project Management Institute was established in 1969. Over the last 50 years, it has introduced project management in nearly every country, set the standard with the PMP (Project Management Professional) certification, and helped millions of people around the world shape and progress their careers.

PMI is connected to nearly every large organization in the world—including Amazon, NASA, Microsoft, and more—helping shape the work done gets done everyday. PMI is home to a passionate global community of over 10,000 volunteers who are positively changing the lives of people in their own communities. PMI is constantly engaging executive audiences to help them realize value at their own organizations, partnering regularly with TED on thought leadership initiatives. And PMI is highly philanthropic, investing in youth education and early career development. In 2019, PMI dedicated thousands of volunteer hours to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The way organizations and people work on teams to deliver value is, ultimately, an example of the new way that we work. Career paths are agile, organizations shift, and change is a new constant.

At PMI, this idea is called The Project Economy, and it’s the basis of the new brand positioning.

With a strong new brand positioning underway, we set out to create a visual language that represented The Project Economy. It infuses the brand with meaning and represents what PMI stands for as they continue to lead the profession into the future.

It’s a language that’s being put to use by PMI in a bold, fresh, and meaningful way. PMI’s new brand isn’t just a refresh for a professional organization. It is reinvigorating an entire profession.
